Our final WIDEN UTSC session of the 2012-13 season was on the theme of Noise, and we thought it was our strongest yet. We had three utterly different perspectives on the theme, a good, engaged audience, and a lively discussion following. You can watch the full session on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZjC3CIiMf4
WIDEN UTSC is a new interdisciplinary forum for members of the University of Toronto Scarborough community. WIDEN UTSC will bring together individuals from different disciplines for a conversation on a common theme. Prompting dialogue among musicians and neurologists, political scientists and chemists, historians and zoologists, philosophers and physicists, WIDEN UTSC will help break down walls, celebrate research, and create community at UTSC. Our first meeting, WIDEN UTSC: On Color, will be the official WIDEN UTSC launch.
UTSC is a diverse community with over 12,000 faculty, undergraduates, graduates and staff. While there are many academic associations and student clubs on campus, there are too few opportunities for members of the community to share academic work across disciplines in a casual way. WIDEN UTSC’s informal, non-hierarchical, supportive meetings will provide a chance to share research, to form new professional connections, and to demonstrate the intellectual value of thinking across academic specializations.
Proposals for WIDEN UTSC themes are always welcome. If you have an idea for a session that you would like to see or be a part of, please contact organizers Alen Hadzovic from Chemistry (alen.hadzovic@utoronto.ca) and Barry Freeman from Theatre and Performance Studies (barry.freeman@utoronto.ca).
WIDEN UTSC has been generously supported on campus by UTSC’s Office of the Vice Principal, Research and the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Read more about us on the UTSC homepage.
